Victoria duo named Commonwealth Games ambassadors

Victoria’s Jackie Snell and Duane Louis are two of 15 Canadians selected to work throughout the Commonwealth for the next 12 months.

The year-long international adventure is part of the Commonwealth Games Canada initiative Capacity Support Program, which began in 2009.

Under the CSP, Canadians early in their sport administration career are sent to work with Commonwealth Games associations and National Olympic Committees in developing countries. The goal is to encourage international development through sport.

Snell, a former UVic Vikes soccer player, is assigned to the Dominica Olympic Committee. Since earning her bachelor of recreation and health education in 2010 she has worked within UVic’s department of athletics and recreation as well as in the athletes’ village at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Louis will join the Samoa Association of Sport and National Olympic Committee for his second tour with the CSP.

The Camosun College sport management grad worked with Aboriginal Team B.C. for the 2008 North American Indigenous Games. His first CSP tour was with the Swaziland OIympic and Commonwealth Games Association last year.
