Vancouver Island's own Zachary Stevenson obviously has a special place in the hearts of Cowichan Valley music fans.
They've flocked to theatres every time he performed in 2014.
And perform he did. He opened in February at the Chemainus Theatre, reprising - by popular demand - his role of Buddy in The Buddy Holly Story starting Feb. 11 and continuing well past its scheduled end of run as fans crowded the theatre.
He was again seen at the Cowichan Exhibition in early September, performing Buddy Holly songs for a delighted crowd.
But he wasn't done yet.
He hit the Cowichan Theatre on Oct. 11 as Buddy Holly, sharing the stage with the Beatles' tribute act, The Fab Fourever for a spectacular show joining the work of the Liverpool lads with the tunes that influenced them so strongly.
Finally, Stevenson brought Buddy Holly back for a fourth performance, this time as part of A Rock Roll Xmas, an event that featured not only his Holly songs but Lance Lipinsky's tribute to Jerry Lee Lewis. Fans also got to see more of Stevenson's new love, charming singer Molly Dee, in that show.
While chatting with the crowd Dec. 14 at the Cowichan Theatre, Stevenson acknowledged that fans had seen a lot of him in 2014 and asked how many people in the big crowd had actually been in the audience for his October show. He was delighted to see many hands go up and thanked them for their loyalty.
It was plain to see that his admirers have enjoyed seeing him polish his act from its first days, which included stints at Ryder's Road House in Mill Bay, until he can now take the stage with other high-quality tribute acts at big venues around North America.
