Concerns about a hang-out on Bayview Place in Maple Bay will be forwarded to the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP detachment, North Cowichan’s council decided at its meeting on Sept. 19.
The municipality will also review the location in six months to see if conditions have changed.
The decisions were made after the municipality received a letter from a family living in the area who had raised safety and noise issues, among others, related to an increasingly used small area that pulls out from the main road, with a tiny view of the ocean.
The letter writers state they have lived in the area for many years after seeking a small, quiet, safe neighbourhood in which to live out of town.
The writers said the small pullout is not a public access, but in the years they have lived there, they have faced almost constant noise and safety concerns.
“Since living here, we have had the same experience, day after day and night after night with non-residents visiting; the noise, cars, music, screaming, fighting, the smokers, drug-users, and of course the quiet ones, but those are few and far between,” the family said in the letter.
“This is too close to home for us. It sure doesn’t help that we welcome, with a pull-out spot and a view, non-residents and their lack of consideration and manners to our neighbourhood.”

The letter went on to say that the community’s residents don’t treat the neighbourhood this way, and non-residents shouldn’t be allowed to either.
“We chose this place for a reason, and the things that continue to happen up here are more than concerning,” it said.
“We hope you (the municipality) can provide a long-term solution for this as soon as possible.”
