The City of Duncan is being recognized, once again, for keeping its financial accounting in excellent order.

The City of Duncan is being recognized, once again, for keeping its financial accounting in excellent order.

The city has received the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

This is the fifth consecutive award presented to Duncan for surpassing the requirements for generally accepted accounting principles and clearly communicating the city's finances in its annual report.

The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting Program was established to encourage municipal governments in Canada to publish high-quality financial reports.

"I am pleased to congratulate staff on producing award-winning reports year after year," said mayor Phil Kent.

"I would like to recognize our director of finance, Talitha Soldera, and the whole finance team for their excellent work."

Career & Job Fair opens up opportunities

The 2017 Cowichan Career & Job Fair will be held today, March 8, at the Ramada Duncan Conference Centre.

More than 500 job candidates from across Vancouver Island attended last year's job fair and feedback from the employers indicated they were impressed with the quality and quantity of the job seekers in attendance.

As in previous years, those attending this year's job fair will have the opportunity to learn about employers in and around the Cowichan Valley and explore job opportunities.

The job fair runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
