'Citizen' wins pair of national awards

The Canadian Community Newspaper Awards were announced on Friday

The Cowichan Valley Citizen has picked up a pair of national awards.The Canadian Community Newspaper Awards were announced on Friday, with the Citizen topping the field in both the best editorial page and best agricultural edition in its circulation class.It was the fifth time in the past seven years the Citizen has topped the nation in the latter category."The team at the Citizen works really hard day in and day out to bring the community a great paper that tells the stories of this great community," said Citizen editor Andrea Rondeau. "To get recognition for our work from Newspapers Canada is always reason to celebrate."Our annual agriculture edition is something we spend months preparing and has become something both our staff and readers look forward to every year. The award in this category in particular is a reflection of all the amazing stuff going on in Cowichan in the agriculture and food industries."Publisher Shirley Skolos said the national awards are indicative of the Citizen's ongoing commitment to readers and advertisers alike."Our entire staff is extremely dedicated," she said.
