A 12-year-old boy is heartbroken following the theft of his brand new custom tricycle.
“We got a brand new adapted tricycle for our 12-year-old yesterday from Cowichan Cycles and they adapted it all for his handicaps,” said Frances Nuttgens on Friday. “Somebody kindly came and stole it out of the driveway today.”
The bike had been at the home less than 24 hours as Nuttgens had just picked it up from the store after dinner the night before.
“We hadn’t even had time to clear the garage to get it into the garage and somebody’s already stolen it,” she said. “I think it was taken between 12:45 p.m. and 2 p.m. because we noticed it gone at 2 and it was there in the morning.”
The boy hadn’t even ridden it yet.
”He’s devastated. he was so excited to get that bike. we’ve been waiting two-and-a-half months. We knew it would come in January,” Nuttgens said.
The bike featured three wheels with a big basket on the back.
“It’s adapted in so many ways,” Nuttgens explained. “It’s especially made an expensive bicycle. It’s all white. “It’s an Evo Latitude model and it’s a beautiful bike.”
The brakes and seat are both adapted as well as one of the pedals.
Nuttgens doesn’t know just who would take the obviously altered but she hopes it will be either spotted by a member of the community, or returned.
