Smoke billowed from a bush fire off of Sahtlam Road Thursday afternoon.
Sahtlam firefighters were called to the scene around 1:45 p.m. by reports that a farmer’s field was on fire and flames were threatening their barns. Sahtlam
Fire Department quickly called for mutual aid from the South End Fire Department.
At about 2:20 p.m. firefighters reported that the blaze had broken through onto public land and requested a helicopter from the Coastal Fire Centre to assist in containing the blaze.
Tinder-dry conditions prevail in the region.
