Cowichan needs volunteers for non-profit boards

The Cowichan region has an urgent and ongoing need for individuals willing to take volunteer leadership roles on non-profit boards.

The communities which comprise the Cowichan Region are strengthened and empowered by the complexity and commitment of the non-profits which work to support and develop them. These non-profits require dedicated teams of volunteers which include strong and committed board of directors.

Volunteering can encompass an enormous diversity of experiences and levels of involvement. These range from the hands on work such as digging ditches or serving meals or the creation of works of community art to the application of management skills. All are equally important but not all are equally acknowledged.

There is a continuous need for volunteers with people skills, management experience and business background, or who would like to develop those skills, to fill board positions. These leadership positions normally take a few hours a month, have flexibility and can provide tremendous personal satisfaction, networking opportunities and excellent training. Most board positions have a term limit so those who volunteer are not making a permanent commitment.

Volunteer Cowichan assists volunteers, non-profits and charitable organizations across whole of the Cowichan Region. We assist in the matching of those looking to volunteer with organizations which meet their needs. We have a serious shortage of volunteers interested in participating on a board.

Volunteer Canada has an excellent website with resources to assist you if you are interested in volunteering in any way. The information on the volunteer who takes a role on the board of directors is especially valuable. (see volunteer.ca/engaging-board-members) If you are a Cowichan resident who would like further information on volunteering for a board role with a local non-profit please contact Volunteer Cowichan for further information at 250-748-2133 or ed@volunteercowichan.bc.ca
