Cowichan Tribes and the Cowichan Valley Regional District has opened a flood support centre to provide assistance to residents whose homes or properties were damaged by the recent floods, as well as residents who were forced to evacuate.
The centre is located in the Si’en Lelum Gym at 5574 River Road, and will be open over the next three days: Thursday from noon to 7 p.m., Friday from noon to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Staff will be on hand to help fill out disaster assistance funding forms, provide flood clean-up kits and information on cleaning up after a flood, offer emotional support and answer questions about flood recovery.
A boil water advisory remains in effect for parts of Cowichan Tribes. Sites are being tested and results could take up to two to four weeks. A number of neighbourhoods continue to be on evacuation alert as more rain is expected along with higher tides than normal.
Cowichan Tribes also issed a reminder that Allenby Road near Miller Road, will remain closed for at least three more days. People are advised avoid the area, both in vehicles and on foot as the slope is unstable, and there is significant debris.
