Cowichan Valley Regional District forms regional recreation group

The Cowichan Valley Regional District has established a regional recreation select committee.

The Cowichan Valley Regional District has established a regional recreation select committee.

The committee will work with staff and a consultant to review, analyze and make recommendations regarding regional recreation.

The select committee’s work will include exploring regional funding model options based on existing service delivery of the region’s nine major recreation facilities.

The recommendations are also anticipated to address if service delivery needs to change, based on any gaps or needs.

The committee will report its recommendations to the board by September, 2017.

The committee members include CVRD board members Matteus Clement, Mel Dorey, Klaus Kuhn, Mary Marcotte and Alison Nicholson.

The committee also includes Al Siebring, from the Island Savings Centre commission, Deb Melnyk, from the North Cowichan parks and recreation committee, Brian Harrison, from the Kerry Park Recreation Centre commission, Bill Peters from the Cowichan Lake recreation commission and Aaron Stone, from Ladysmith’s council.
