Lori and Jason Hamilton had been trying for a long time to have a baby. Their wish came true at 1:40 p.m. on Jan. 1, making them the proud parents of Cowichan District Hospital’s first baby of 2023.

“It’s been a long road,” said new mom, Lori. “He’s an IVF baby, we’ve been trying for a long time.”

Weighing in at a healthy 7 lbs 14 oz, and stretching 49 cm long, Jasper Hamilton was born via cesarean section after his mom was induced on the morning of Jan. 1.

It seems Jasper didn’t care much how long his parents had been waiting for him because he sure took his time in arriving.

“He was due at Christmas so we were expecting a Christmas baby but we got a New Year’s one,” Lori explained.

The first-time mom said the best part so far is “just having him here.”

“We are doing good,” she said on Jan. 4. “We’re all doing really good and healthy and we get to go home today.”
