The Cowichan Valley Regional District will hold a public meeting on Nov. 6 to look for feedback on south Cowichan’s liquid waste management plan.

In recent years, the population of south Cowichan has grown faster (six per cent) than the regional average (four per cent).

During this time, there have been numerous water-quality objectives for surface water in the plan area.

Currently, several sewer systems in the area do not meet regulatory standards for discharge.

As well, the CVRD has 25 individual sewer systems in the plan area without a coordinated strategy as the area’s population continues growing rapidly.

The CVRD is gathering feedback from the public about longer-term planning for liquid waste services needed to support the communities in the south Cowichan area.

This information will be used to consider solutions that will be outlined in a South Sector Liquid Waste Management Plan.

The public is invited to provide their feedback and to talk about ways to move forward at the public meeting, to be held in the Field House at Brentwood College, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
