CVRD to issue RFP for legal service

The Cowichan Valley Regional District board voted Wednesday night to change the way they have been acquiring legal services, in a bid to save money.

In the past, the district has obtained legal services from a variety of different firms, as it has provided flexibility to shop around when in need of quick advice and allowed for the choice of specialist lawyers for different matters.

Rates per hour for legal services have varied from $175 per hour to $350 per hour.

This week, the board voted to issue an RFP for legal services.

The district will then select a firm for the majority of legal services, with the view to being able to negotiate better rates, and the ability to create a long-term relationship with a firm that will then have a better understanding of the CVRD organization and the issues it is facing.
