The Cowichan Valley Regional District will lower flags at all its facilities to half mast this week in recognition of the lives lost in a horrific mass shooting in Nova Scotia.

Investigators are continuing to piece together one of Canada’s deadliest mass killings, which saw a man who at one point donned a police uniform slay at least 17 people as he travelled across northern Nova Scotia over the weekend.

“Residents across our region are deeply saddened and affected by the news out of Nova Scotia yesterday, and our hearts and thoughts are with all those who lost loved ones to this senseless act of violence,” said Aaron Stone, chairman of the CVRD.

The world’s largest hockey stick at the Cowichan Community Centre will also be lit up as a show of solidarity for those communities who are reeling from this tragic event.
