The Duncan chapter of the Probus retiree social club celebrated its 20th anniversary on Dec. 14 at the Arbutus Ridge Golf Course.
Club spokesman Ed White said the actual 20th anniversary was in April, 2020, but celebration plans were put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Probus is a worldwide, volunteer, non-political, non-secular social club for men and women who are retired or semi-retired.
Probus strives to keep life interesting and fulfilling for its members through monthly meetings with speakers, visits and tours to businesses and organizations, plus many special interest group events, including hiking, book clubs, bridge clubs and social nights.
“Now that we can meet in person again, we combined a belated 20th anniversary celebration with our traditional Christmas celebration on Dec. 14,” White said.
“In a fairly brief program, charter members and past presidents were recognized and Keith McGregor, the Vancouver Island Probus director, presented a Certificate of Congratulation to the club which was accepted by Mary Braybrooks, the only person who is both a charter member and past president.”
White said the presentation, which took about 45 minutes, was followed by a Christmas program with a buffet lunch.
