The Cowichan Valley Regional District has issued an evacuation order to residents of the Riverside Campground on Allenby Road.

The order was sent out just before 5 p.m. Monday and included a request that all campground residents register with emergency social services online (https://ess.gov.bc.ca) to report they’ve safely left the area.

Those unable to register online are to go to the reception centre at the Cowichan Community Centre.

The Cowichan River has breached its banks posing an “immediate danger to life safety” said the alert.

Earlier in the day, Emcon Services Inc., the company responsible for roads in the CVRD, closed Allenby Road between Miller road and Boys Road due to a mudslide.
