If you see a large presence of firefighters in the Duncan area on Saturday there’s no cause for alarm.

Cowichan Tribes advised that for the first time a number of Cowichan Valley fire departments will be coming together on June 18 for a pre-season urban wildfire interface drill.

The drills will take place at two locations between 8 a.m. and noon, and will involve firefighters from Cowichan Tribes, the City of Duncan, Municipality of North Cowichan, Cowichan Valley Regional District and Cowichan Bay.

The public are asked to avoid the area so crews can practice safely. Fire trucks will be travelling through the City of Duncan, River Road and Wharncliffe Road areas and the Municipality of North Cowichan’s South End Response Area.
