Maple Bay volunteer firefighters were able to prevent a fire from spreading through a Magnolia Place home on Sunday.

The fire started in the detached garage, and for the most part, the firefighters were able to keep it there, although the rest of the home did sustain smoke damage.

"We got there and got it knocked down before it made it into the living portion of the house," Maple Bay deputy fire chief Mike Dunn said. "No flames got through."

The call for the fire came in just before noon, and about 20 firefighters were on the scene for just over two hours. The residents were away from the house when the blaze started.

"Nobody was hurt," Dunn said. "It was just property loss, and property can be replaced easily enough." The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
