BC Transit and the communities of Chemainus, Cowichan Bay, Duncan and Lake Cowichan are offering graduating students a free two-day unlimited bus pass to be used at their convenience anytime in June.

It’s not a new initiative; it was first introduced in Vancouver way back in 1988 as part of the Counterattack program.

Victoria Regional Transit followed suit two years later and over the years more and more communities have gotten on board.

Now, 50 communities offer the GradPASS, and it’s believed more than 22,000 of the passes will be handed out across the province.

“I would like to congratulate the class of 2017 on their accomplishment and wish them continued success as they start the next chapter of their lives,” said BC Transit president and CEO Manuel Achadinha. “Transit provides a safe transportation option, and I encourage graduates to take advantage of this free, sustainable transportation opportunity.”

GradPASS is easy to use: students simply scratch off their two chosen travel days (they don’t have to be consecutive days) and show the card to their bus driver. GradPASS is not transferable and can only be used on participating local systems.
