Jason Adair is running to be on the board of education in SD79 in the upcoming election.
He said he has been a resident of the Cowichan valley since 2005 and his teenager is a student in the district.
Adair said there are more than 8,000 students in the Cowichan Valley, and it is the responsibility of the electorate to place people that will best serve the administrative needs of the district.
“I put my name forward because I believe I have the skill set, experience and leadership abilities to help our students thrive and become good citizens,” he said.
“I am running for school trustee to help build strong, healthy, resilient students, good citizens, and to provide responsible stewardship of public funds.”
Adair said public education in B.C. is an absolute jewel and something everyone should be proud of, offering the opportunity to receive an excellent education taught by committed, dedicated and skilled educators and support staff.
“I will be fully supporting the fine work that our school district is currently doing and will be building on that,” he said.
Adair said he has more than 20 years of management experience, including more than 14 in local government.
He said through this experience, he’s developed the necessary skills to succeed as a school trustee in terms of managing and delivering significant operating and capital budgets and strategic visions.
“There is a substantial labour shortage in Canada causing challenges for all industries, especially health and other essential services,” Adair said.
“However, this has also created impressive opportunities for students in upcoming years. When I graduated high school in 1991, job prospects were nowhere near as plentiful. For example, in B.C. alone, it is estimated that by the year 2031, 20,000 nurses and 85,000 trade positions will be needed.”
Adair said he will develop strategies with the trustee team that will ensure students understand and have access to the amazing opportunities that exist for them, and advocate for a curriculum that will help fill these projected vacancies.
