Jenni Capps said she’s excited to share that she’s running for re-election for a councillor seat in the City of Duncan.

She said she’s lived in the community her entire life, and has chosen to continue to live, work, and raise her child here.

“For over 13 years I have worked for small, local businesses in the downtown core where I live, and I truly can’t imagine living and working anywhere other than my hometown,” Capps said.

“I’m deeply invested in the future of this community, and I take great pride in making responsible decisions that will serve Duncan now, and well into the future.”

Capps said that prior to serving on city council, she was an active volunteer in the community.

She said she volunteered for the Islands Folk Festival for over a decade, sat on the Cowichan Folk Guild board of directors, volunteered with Safe Youth Cowichan, served as a youth representative on the Community Safety Advisory Commission, and worked at many local events like the Cowichan River Clean-Up.

“I especially value my three years as the junior mayor on the City of Duncan’s youth council learning about local government responsibilities and procedures,” Capps said.

“At the council table, I have provided a young parent’s perspective, consistently supported diverse housing options, environmental protection and resilience, and a balance between modest tax rates and providing services to our city.”

Capps said she believes in providing direct and indirect support to local businesses, and planning ahead thoughtfully for future generations.

“I have been a respectful, diligent community representative, able to debate even contentious topics in a civil manner,” she said.

“A councillor is just one voice at the table and must be willing to consider all viewpoints to work together for the best interest of the community.”
