A former teacher at Shawnigan Lake School who is facing a mandatory jail sentence after he was found guilty of sexual exploitation of a former student will wait until late July to hear his sentence.
After almost a full day sentence hearing on June 30, Duncan Provincial Court Judge C. Rogers said she has a “great deal” of material to consider in determining the sentence of Andrew Michael Olson.
“This is a significant matter that deserves an appropriate amount of time to consider,” Rogers said. “I’d like to conclude the matter as quickly as possible, so sentencing will be scheduled for at least three weeks from now.”
Olson was convicted in May of four counts of sexual exploitation and one of child luring in relation to offences that occurred on Dec. 28, 2014 and March 6, 2015, when Olson was a 34-year-old teacher at the boarding school, and the victim was a student.
