Kathleen Code is running for the director’s seat in the CVRD’s Electoral Area B (Shawnigan Lake).

Code will be running against incumbent Sierra Acton and contender Kate MacDonald in the electoral area.

Code said she is a retired economic development policy analyst with the provincial government and has been in community service a good part of her life.

“I was asked by citizens of Area B to run in this election and after determining there was a great deal of support for me, I decided it was time to throw my hat in the ring,” she said.

“I am motivated by the beauty and environmental resources we have here in Shawnigan Lake. With the climate crisis upon us, it’s critical that we begin to learn to live within our ecological parameters, that we protect our watersheds and increase our food security.”

Code said that after talking with residents, she was impressed with their desire to protect the environment and to move ahead with meaningful projects that work for everyone.

She said the CVRD’s board and citizens need to work together to develop a resilient community where everyone can prosper and live good lives.

Code said she has a proven track record of success.

“As a member of the Ecoforestry Institute Society board, I worked to keep Wildwood Ecoforest within the public domain,” she said.

“I also co-managed the restoration of the Homestead and today, we hold Wildwood in trust for the people of B.C. with the Homestead as a key revenue generator.”

Code said she is also a member of the Fairy Creek Legal Defenders, working to protect the last three per cent of the old-growth forests and defend indigenous rights, title and sovereignty.

“I am on the board of the Cowichan Family Life Association, offering free and affordable counselling sessions to CVRD residents,” she said.

“I have a strong background in forestry, agriculture, economics, and environmental management. What happens in Area B matters to us and to generations to come.”
