Kehar Garry Sangha is scheduled to appear by video at the Duncan Courthouse on May 2 to fix a court date when it will be determined if he will be allowed out on bail until the Crown determines how it wants to proceed with the case.
Sangha, 52, has been charged with nine counts in relation to an incident earlier this month where a woman was alleged to have been held and beaten in a Cowichan Valley home over a three-day period.
The charges include aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and unlawful confinement or imprisonment.
He is currently being held at an undisclosed location.
Officers responded to a 911 call on April 11, finding a woman in need of medical assistance.
Sangha was taken into custody the next day.
RCMP officers spent April 13 searching a property on Stamps Road, where the woman said she was held, for evidence.
