Ladysmith gets $1M for wastewater upgrade

The funding for the plan comes from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change’s Green Municipal Fund.

The Town of Ladysmith will receive a grant of $1 million, and a loan of $10 million, from Ottawa for a major upgrade of its wastewater plant to a standard that exceeds anticipated federal and provincial requirements.

The funding for the plan comes from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change’s Green Municipal Fund.

The upgraded plant will be able to accommodate a doubling of Ladysmith’s population, and will also meet the needs of the Stz’uminus First Nation communities in the area. The upgrade is considered essential for the redevelopment of the town’s waterfront lands, and will support the health of the local shellfish industry.
