Loretta Puckrin, co-chair of the committee for the 75th Birthday Celebration, asked Lake Cowichan town council to get on with deciding how much money the group would get because they need to get on with the job.
The group is hoping for about $4,000 from the Town of Lake Cowichan in a couple of ways, she said.
The idea is to try to ensure that something with a birthday theme is happening all year long and the committee plans to get a lot of local groups and businesses on board, to build excitement before the big celebration next August.
By the Dec. 4 parks and recreation committee meeting, the new council had decided to include a discussion about funding 75th anniversary actitivies in their upcoming 2019 budget discussions.
However, a $2,000 cheque from the town’s 2018 grant-in-aid money has been issued, Town CAO Joe Fernandez said.
