The folks at the Cowichan Community Policing and Crime Prevention office are hoping to help you unlock the mystery of your missing keys.
If you’ve lost your keys in or around downtown Duncan, odds are pretty good they could be at their Canada Avenue office.
Community Policing manager Carol-Ann Rolls said that’s not the only mountain of keys around town.
“There’s another big giant pile of keys at the detachment as well,” she said. “We leave them here as long as we can and we just keep putting more keys into coffee cans, and then we’ve taken them down to the detachment and dropped them off there, as well, and then the detachment eventually disposes of them I think.”
Keys dropped off at City Hall are brought to the community policing office as well as those found by commissionaires.
“If there’s a key left in the bathroom or at the bus stop or something the commissionaires drop them off with us,” Rolls confirmed.
It’s hard work reuniting lost keys with their owners.
“We try to find homes for them as much as we can if there’s an ID attached to them,” she said, but they don’t have time to match every key with its rightful owner. But, if you’ve lost keys, by all means come down and have a look.”
The Cowichan Community Policing and Crime Prevention office is located at #3- 149 Canada Ave.
