Man in custody after assault near Silver Bridge in Duncan

One man has been arrested following an assault near the Silver Bridge in Duncan on Thursday, Dec. 10.

Officers from the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP detachment responded to a report of a suspicious incident in the 200 block of the Trans Canada Highway, shortly after 7 a.m.

Several officers headed to the area to search for the man associated with the initial call.

A short time later, a man was located and taken to Cowichan District Hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

A second man was subsequently identified as being a suspect in an assault and was arrested.

The local RCMP detachment, with the assistance of the Forensic Identification Section and Police Dog Services, are currently in the early stages of an assault investigation.

At this time, the suspect remains in custody and the public is not at risk

“We would like to thank the community members who have supported the investigation this morning,” says Sgt. Kurt Bosnell, plain clothes unit commander.

The RCMP said no further information will be released at this time and an update will be provided at a later date.
