More than 5,000 BC Hydro customers were in the dark on Saturday morning, Dec. 18 in the Cowichan Valley.

The biggest outages were more than 900 people in the downtown Duncan area, and almost 3,000 in an area stretching to Tzouhalem and Maple Bay roads. Update: just before 9:30 a.m. another large outage was reported, with almost 2,000 customers without power in the Somenos Road, Sherman Road and Cowichan Lake Road area.

About 130 people in the Cowichan Station/Cobble Hill area were also down.

Causes were listed as wires down, with heavy snow affecting some areas, as well as winds that came with a promised storm that hit the area Friday night and continued into Saturday morning.
