A motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital with undetermined injuries following an accident on Crofton Road Friday afternoon.
BC Emergency Health Services was notified of the incident at 5:28 p.m. in the 8900 block of Crofton Road near Hay Road.
“Two ground ambulances and an air ambulance responded to the scene. Paramedics cared for and transported one patient to hospital,” read a statement from BCEHS.
Martin Drakeley, Municipality of North Cowichan fire chief and senior manager for bylaw services, added fire crews received a call from the BC Ambulance Service about the incident two minutes later.
The BC Ambulance Service provides public ambulance service in B.C. under the authority of BC Emergency Health Services.
“Possible extrication required the need for Chemainus crews with the Jaws of Life,” Drakeley explained. “Thirteen firefighters from two halls with one engine and one rescue found a motorcycle in the bushes. The crews assisted BCAS with removal and loading onto air ambulance.”
The Jaws of Life was not used, he added.
The condition of the patient who went immediately under BCAS care was not known.
