No homes or businesses were impacted by the landslide on Indian Road in Duncan on Wednesday, Jan. 12.
A statement from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said the road was closed that afternoon while the trees that slid from the top of the bank were cut up and removed.
“Root masses were also removed and the remaining mud and debris was cleared,” the statement said.
“There is a roadside barrier in place to isolate a minor settlement on the downslope of Indian Road and to protect the travelling public.”
The Cowichan Valley Regional district issued an alert at 4:42 p.m. on Jan. 12 that the slide happened on Indian Road near the Allenby Road intersection, and traffic was temporarily detoured through Glenora.
The ministry statement said Allenby Road, which has been closed to traffic since November’s flooding caused a landslide that buried that road in debris, was not connected to the Indian Road slide.
Updates on when Allenby Road is expected to reopen were not available by press time.
