North Cowichan council hands off Meadow Park sewage

The long saga of the Meadow Park subdivision's sewage woes took another step forward Wednesday, July 2 as North Cowichan council repealed its bylaw, dumping the contentious problem back in the hands of Island Health.

Previously, council had enacted a local area service bylaw that would have dealt with some failed septic systems and put in a new sewer system with payment coming from the group of homeowners involved.

However, after residents gathered enough support in a petition to stop the process earlier this year, council voted May 7 to repeal the bylaw and that step has now been included in an omnibus bylaw that dealt with a variety of things, such as updating the titles of its employees.
