More than 1,000 vehicles were checked by the RCMP during a traffic-enforcement operation in Cowichan Bay on the last weekend in September.

During this initiative on Sept. 24, police officers issued 30 written warnings, 28 violation tickets, and 15 Notice and Orders including an excessive speed and two impaired driving investigations.

Furthermore, officers caught three prohibited drivers and conducted two Cannabis Act investigations, including a seizure of more than 480 grams of dried cannabis and 45 packages of edibles.

“Officers received positive feedback from the general public during this enforcement operation,” said Corporal Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the BC RCMP.

“These traffic initiatives are routinely undertaken to ensure compliance with the Motor Vehicle Act and road safety for all motorists, as a part of the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP’s commitment to public safety.”

Officers from the North Cowichan/Duncan detachment were joined by officers from the British Columbia Highway Patrol and Traffic Safety Unit Police Dog Service in the initiative.
