UPDATE: Power in all areas of the Cowichan Valley was back on as of Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 27.
Tree branches falling across power lines have approximately 1,600 BC Hydro customers in the downtown core of Duncan in the dark this morning.
BC Hydro spokesman Ted Olynyk said work crews are on site dealing with the problem, and power should be back on by noon.
Power is also still out for about 40 residences in the Caycuse area, located west of Saseenos Road and Youbou Road, who have been in the dark since about 7 a.m. on Boxing Day.
Olynyk said the reason for that power outage is still under investigation, and BC Hydro is bringing in a helicopter to try and find out where the trouble originated.
A large swathe of Lake Cowichan lost their power on Boxing Day as well from approximately 7 a.m. and 10 p.m., also due to tree branches falling on power lines.
