RCMP investigating suspicious fire at Duncan Hotel

A fire in a unit at the Duncan Hotel on Jan. 25 is being treated as suspicious.

Scorch marks are visible on the cinderblock walls outside of a unit at the Duncan Hotel where officials believe a fire was deliberately set Wednesday evening. Contents of the room were piled outside as investigators continued their probe into the cause of the blaze.

A fire in a unit at the Duncan Hotel on Jan. 25 is being treated as suspicious.

The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP’s arson investigator and the forensic identification section has been tasked to work alongside the North Cowichan Volunteer Fire Department to determine the cause of the blaze.

Emergency personnel were called to the hotel, located at 2552 Alexander St., at approximately 7 p.m.

The fire was isolated to a single unit and was extinguished quickly. There was no one in the unit at the time of the fire, so no one was hurt.
