RCMP members want to hear from Chemainus residents about policing priorities

Town hall meeting at the Chemainus Legion Hall on March 16

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP members are looking for input and feedback from Chemainus residents about policing.

A town hall meeting takes place at the Chemainus Legion on Thursday, March 16th at 6 p.m, to help establish pro-active policing initiatives.

Each year until COVID, the RCMP asked for feedback from the community in a public forum to help identify priorities and set new policing objectives. Since gatherings have resumed, officers will be on hand at the Legion to gather input and listen to suggestions in-person again.

“Feedback from those we serve is really a crucial part of our future planning,” noted detachment commander Insp. Chris Bear. “This lets us set strategic priorities that will have the biggest impact in our community.”

Police officers spend the majority of their time responding to calls for service and conducting ongoing investigative follow-ups. As time allows, officers are in the community proactively working on crime reduction initiatives.

Examples of crime reduction initiatives include: enhanced foot patrols in the downtown business areas; traffic safety campaigns targeting impaired or distracted drivers; engaging with youth in the community; and addressing strategic areas of the community with increased police presence.
