Register for free caregiver series

A new free series from the Alzheimer Society of B.C. will provide practical coping strategies for family members caring for a person with dementia.

"It is through education that caregivers understand the disease and learn effective strategies to deal with changing communication and behaviors," said Jane Hope, the society's support and education coordinator for the Central Island.

Topics in the Family Caregiver Series include understanding Alzheimer's and other dementias, effective and creative ways to communicate with someone with dementia, self-care for caregivers and planning for the future.

The session runs from Saturday, Feb. 1 from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Providence Farm. Info and registration: 1-800-462-2833 or jhope@alzheimerbc.org
