Shawnigan Lake - The $335,000 severance payment to CAO Warren Jones amounts to about one per cent of the CVRD's $30 million annual tax requisition. The CVRD board has a target overall tax increase for 2014 of 0.9 per cent. It would appear they have blown their whole increase for the year, and then some, on one item: paying Mr. Jones not to work.
Can we assume the board will now freeze all wages and other expenditures for the year, in order not to overshoot their target tax increase? They should, but of course they won't.However, appearances must be maintained. Expect some interesting number fudging when the final budget comes down at the end of March.Blaise SalmonShawnigan Lake
