A small forest fire north of Youbou in under control according to the B.C. Wildfire Service.
The blaze is 0.17 hectares near Coonskin Creek, though smoke could be seen over the top of the mountains to the north, worrying residents of the Cowichan Lake Area.
B.C. Wildfire Services data shows the fire’s ignition date was Sept. 20 and it’s suspected to be human-caused.
“It was a small fire. It’s not expected to grow any further,” said Coastal Fire Centre fire information officer Mike McCulley on Thursday.
He said the cooler weather in the next few days will be void of precipitation and the longer-term forecast shows it heating up again so the B.C. Wildfire Service is still keeping a close eye on it.
“These smaller fires that we have that are listed as under control, certainly we’ll be working on them and looking out for any new fires as well,” McCulley said.
