Suspect charged in serious assault case

The victim of an assault in the Stoltz Road area on Oct. 31 was still in hospital Wednesday afternoon, while the suspect in the crime has been formally charged and will remain in custody at least until early December.

Police were called to a residence early last Friday morning, where they arrested the suspect, while the victim was airlifted to Victoria General Hospital for treatment. Police revealed that the victim and suspect, both adults, were known to each other, but are not believed to be in a domestic relationship. Neither name is being released by the police.

"Neither the suspect nor the victim are Cowichan Valley residents," said Cpl. Krista Hobday of the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP.
