The Urgent Care Centre in Chemainus will be closed for even more days in October, 13 compared to nine in September.
The problem continues to be limited physician availability.
The centre will be completely closed on Oct. 1, 2, 6, 7, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 19, 24, 25 and 31.
Normal operating hours from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. will be on Oct. 3, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 22, 23, 26 and 28.
Partial hours from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. will occur on Oct. 4, 9, 10, 21, 27, 29 and 30.
Laboratory and medical imaging services will continue as usual.
When urgent care is not open, people should proceed to the Ladysmith Community Health Centre or Cowichan District Hospital. Island Health will allocate additional resources to Ladysmith and Cowichan to support staff and patients.
Island Health is working to secure additional physician coverage for October, which may result in adjustments to urgent care hours of operation. People can call ahead for up-to-date information at 250-737-2040, Ext. 42227, or check for updates on the Island Health website.
Anyone experiencing a medical emergency should call 911 or proceed to the nearest emergency department, if possible.
Island Health acknowledges it is not an ideal situation for the community and apologizes for the inconvenience caused by the temporary service interruption.
