Two more schools in the Cowichan Valley — Khowhemun Elementary and Quamichan School — reported possible COVID-19 exposures last week, and a local grocery store has also confirmed more positive tests.
According to letters from Central Island Medical Health Officer Sandra Allison and School District 79 superintendent Robyn Gray that were issued to parents and posted to social media on Friday, March 5, at least one member of the school community at each location tested positive for COVID-19.
Potential exposures occurred at Khowhemun on March 1 and 2, and at Quamichan on March 2.
Students and staff who will be required to self-isolate for 14 days have been notified by phone calls or letters. Other staff and students are asked to self-monitor for symptoms and to seek testing and self-isolate if symptoms begin.
Two more positive tests were confirmed among employees at the Real Canadian Superstore in Duncan. The tests were announced on the website of parent company Loblaw, Ltd., and the employees last worked on Feb. 22 and 26.
