In loving memory ~
Alan Arthur Hussey was a loving husband, dad, pops and grandad. He passed away surrounded by his family on October 27th, 2022 at the age of 89.
He was an only child born in London, England on April 2nd, 1933 to Isobel and Arthur Hussey. They moved to Rainham, Kent just before WW2. During the war, his father was in the navy and he moved with his mother to stay with family in northern England and Scotland. At the age of 15, he joined the Royal Navy and served on aircraft carriers, destroyers, and frigates. Alan enjoyed attending dances with his friends and at one of these dances he met his wife, Mary, who he was married to for 66 years. They were married in 1956 and their children, Sharon and Nigel, were born in Gillingham. Alan left the navy in 1963 and they emigrated to Canada. Alan joined BC Hydro as a steam engineer in Chemainus and their third child, Linda was born. Alan was very interested in local politics and was elected as an Alderman, Chairman of the School District and Chairman of the Hospital Board. He spent many years attending meetings as he was passionate about improving the school system and municipal politics. After living in Chemainus for 21 years, BC Hydro closed the plant and Alan was relocated to Port Coquitlam. When Alan retired, they chose to move to Duncan to be closer to their family. Alan helped look after all seven of his grandchildren from driving them to lessons, school and cooking for them.
Throughout Alan's life he enjoyed reading, history, sailing, scuba diving, gardening, cooking, tennis, squash, trains and camping. He loved to travel to England to visit with family and friends and he especially loved to visit Sint Maarten and relax with his family. He also enjoyed being a member of the Royal Naval Association where he met many new friends and reunited with past friends from England.
Alan is predeceased by his wife, Mary on August 4th, 2022. He leaves behind his children: Sharon (predeceased by Herbie) Cheong, Nigel (Aya) Hussey and Linda (Vern) Wheeler and his grandchildren: Jennifer, Kellie, Joshua, Jazmin, Martin, Julia and Liam.
