September 26, 1926 - December 24, 2019
Jack passed away peacefully, with his daughter Lisa by his side, on December 24, 2019 at Cowichan District Hospital.
Born in Cloverdale, to Arthur John and Gertrude (Dixon) Douglas, he was the youngest of three boys. His older brothers Wallace and Paul, both RCAF, were killed during WWII.
Jack joined the Canadian Merchant Navy in 1941 sailing on the "Park" Merchant ships for the duration of the war and until 1948. In 1946 while in Shanghai he was run over by a bicycle cab breaking a leg and spending three months in hospital before being shipped home to Vancouver. Jack had many stories to tell.
Jack met Georgina E.A. Nye of North Vancouver in 1947. They were married September 3, 1948. Sadly, we lost her to cancer December 25, 1985 age 56.
Jack worked as a Pipefitter running many large construction projects in BC and Alta. over his 30+ year career.
Jack and Gina moved their family from North Vancouver to the Cowichan Valley in the early 60s and purchased an old home and seven acres on Khenipsen Rd. With seven children, a Jersey cow, horses, dogs and many other farm animals added to the mix over the next thirty years.
Left to remember him are his children Paula, Dawn, John (Julie), Lorna, Grant (Barb), Lisa and Robert (Rene) plus 12 grandchildren, Scott (Jodie), Doug (Rita), Corky Fontana, Bill Court (Shari), Drew (Dana), John Jr. (Angela), Greg (Aurora), Rob (Evette), Tristan, Laura Stephenson (Jake), Devin Stephenson and Robyn Douglas plus 21 great grandchildren. A special thank you to Joanne McClinchy, Jack's truly dear and supportive friend.
