It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my partner Brian Brewer.
Brian was an accomplished man. Humble to his own successes. He obtained his Private Pilots license and enjoyed taking people for flights over the Cowichan Valley, a place he loved and flourished in. As a child he had dreams of wanting to fly and he made it a reality.
He proudly belonged to an elite group of men known as "loggers" his whole life. They were proud stewards of the forest that provided their livelihood. Loggers continued to log after work in the pub, grateful they had survived another day.
These men fought the fires, protected the wildlife and re-planted seedlings for the next generation. Forests were a renewable resource. They built this country.
Brian had his Class-1 and could drive any truck. He could operate any machinery needed for his job. He had his Industrial First Aid ticket that he used in his work and was responsible for tending to some horrible accidents that occurred at work. As tough as he had to be in his job, he was equally drawn to tears when facing a hurt animal or friend. He abhorred animal cruelty.
He loved being in nature and patiently studied the habits of many animals that visited his feeders. He smiled when he told the story about a Raven he called "Silver" who sat on the mirror of his truck to share lunch. On clear nights, as we waited for the Space Station to go over our heads, he was overwhelmed by the endlessness of the universe. He marveled at the technology that had been developed over his lifetime.
It is heartbreaking to know Brian leaves his beloved companions "Shawna and Kitty". We had a special tree in the neighbourhood that was our "RockTree", come fall you can see a pile of rocks at the top. Shawna loved the sound of the missed ones falling in the water.

...Brian loved his life
...Lived with gusto
...He will be missed by family and friends
...He worked to make the yard perfect
.......and he loved me.

Like us all will leave this world with some regrets.
This is the man I know. Everyday he said to me "If it gets too tough...come home." And he lit my way with a small string of colourful lights.
We had each others backs and it can't get any better than that.

You will be sorely missed. Love Bette
