February 6, 1932 - March 10, 2025
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we, the family of Joseph Kenneth (Ken) Carson, announce his passing on March 10th, 2025. Ken is survived by his loving wife, Barabee; daughter, Kendra (Jeff); son, Brent (Carla); and five cherished grandchildren, Kailey, Jillian, Jenna, Landon, and Riley.
Ken was born on February 6th, 1932, in Winnipeg, MB, to Joseph (Gyp) and Reta Carson. He was predeceased by his siblings, Helen and Joyce (who passed away at the age of 10). In 1966, Ken met Barabee at the "German" club, and they were married on June 1st, 1968. In 1969, seeking better opportunities, they left Winnipeg and moved to Campbell River, where Ken worked as an ore truck driver for Western Mines for three years. In 1972, Ken began working for Domans Transport, where he stayed for 23 years before retiring.
Ken was a dedicated member of Duncan United Church, and he found great joy in long-distance conversations with his granddaughters in Nova Scotia. He was a devoted supporter of his grandson Landon's hockey games and regularly attended horse shows for his granddaughter Riley.
Ken had a wonderful sense of humor and loved sharing jokes with family, friends, and even strangers. He was a caring and attentive grandfather, and his grandchildren will miss him deeply. Ken was also a compassionate individual, demonstrated through his many years of donating blood until he was no longer able. He had a passion for reading and frequently swapped books with friends. Ken enjoyed doing crosswords, believing they kept his mind sharp - something that was certainly true, as he was a quick thinker. In his later years, Ken often enjoyed playing solitaire in the evenings, a pastime that allowed him both relaxation and reflection.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the many long-time friends with whom Ken enjoyed coffee and celebrations throughout his life. We also express our gratitude to the kind neighbors who shared countless "over-the-hedge" conversations with him. Special thanks to the paramedics and the nurses in the ICU - Lane, Marsha, and Allana - who compassionately cared for Ken during final days, ensuring his comfort. We are also grateful to Drs. Lipinski and Jansz for their dedicated efforts to care for him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Duncan United Church General Fund or the CDH ICU Fund.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Duncan United Church, 246 Ingram Street, Duncan, BC.
