It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our much-loved mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin and dear friend, Cathy Brown.
She passed away quietly in her sleep after a determined battle with cancer.Cathy was predeceased by her father Robert and her mother Ethel, as well as her nephew Kelly. She leaves to mourn her husband of 47 years, Jim Brown, her sons Christopher and James (JoJo) and beloved namesake granddaughter, Catherine Lin, as well as her sister Dawn (Frank), her brother Warren (Lisa), and her nieces Karin (Phil), Michelle (Graham), Christine (Russ) and her nephew Robert, as well as numerous grand-nieces and nephews.
Cathy was born in Victoria and lived in Winnipeg and Calgary, graduating from Henry Wise Wood High School in Calgary. She studied physical education at the University of Calgary, before enjoying her career as a science and physical education teacher in Calgary. A talented and accomplished athlete, Cathy was a competitive swimmer and field hockey player in her younger years.
She maintained her active lifestyle and enjoyed many sports, including golf, throughout her lifetime. Cathy was also a lifelong Calgary Flames and Calgary Stampeders fan. Upon retirement, Cathy and Jim moved to Duncan, where they enjoyed golfing and travelling and spending time with family. Cathy will be especially missed by her long-time close circle of Calgary friends, a group of women that maintain close contact even as some moved away from Calgary.
A Celebration of Life will be held in July at one of her favorite spots in Maple Bay. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Cathy's name at the Canadian Cancer Society.
