August 4, 1927 - July 18, 2018
David Lorenzo McKay passed away peacefully on July 18, 2018 at the Berwick Royal Oak Senior's Residence. He was predeceased by his wife Irene and his parents: William and Judith McKay.

He is survived by his brothers: Jock (Denny) and Bill (Wendy) and adopted daughter Deborah; sons: William (Ruth), James and Richard (Kim); as well as by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. David was born in Invermere, BC on August 4, 1927 and attended Primary School in Rossland, Elementary School in Penticton and High School in Cranbrook. He graduated in Mining Engineering from the University of British Columbia in 1950. He was very proud to have been in mining, especially to have been associated with its people. In his working life, he worked for a number of mining companies for 35 years with operations in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec.

Then for the next 17 years prior to retirement, he went out on his own as a consulting engineer which took him to all provinces in Canada, then in the USA from Alaska to New Jersey and finally to overseas countries such as Scandinavia, China and to Kazakhstan. In his retirement, he wrote two books (one about his career... published) and (one about Irene's family - given as Christmas gifts to her family). There was a third book that was only partly completed.

Besides writing, he took up the piano at the age of 77 and retired his bagpipes after playing them for 70 years in 2015. Dave often said, "My ambition is to marry a pretty girl (he did in marrying Irene), move to Vancouver Island (that too), drive a Cadillac (yes indeed), and own a loyal dog (Muffin)". Later, after Irene's passing he would say, "I have been blessed with good health; good and loving parents who gave me a good education both at home and in school; I have had a happy marriage and now in my old age I can live comfortably."

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at St. John's Anglican Church, 3295 Cobble Hill Road in Cobble Hill, BC.
