Declan was born in Greystones, County Wicklow, Ireland and lived most of his life in the Cowichan Valley. He worked as a groundskeeper at Brentwood College School, later doing private gardening work around Duncan.
Dec will be remembered for his volunteer work with the Cowichan Folk Guild and the Cowichan Folk Fest, Special Woodstock, and SunFest.
The family wishes to thank brother Emmett for his long-time caregiving, and daughter Jen for handling the details during the last phase of Dec's life. Thanks also to the staff at The Hamlets for their care and attention. And thanks to Nurse Tim and the attending medical staff at the Cowichan District Hospital who were there with several family members at the end.
Declan was predeceased by his parents Owen and Jennie Finnegan and his former wife Debbie Saulsgiver.
Declan is remembered by his siblings Veronica, Pamela, Greg, Eug, Barry and Emmett. Declan is survived by his children Matt, Jen, Neala (Shane), and his grandchildren: Dale, Kaya, Riley, Jeromy, Hunter, and Shayla!
