Of Shawnigan Lake, BC passed peacefully at the Priory on Goldstream in Langford.

Don is a fourth generation born in Victoria, grew up in Langford, attended Belmont High School and completed heavy duty mechanics at Malaspina College before starting a long career as a marine engineer with Canadian Coast Guard on the weather ship, Vancouver, then transferring to the Eckaloo and Dummit ships on the MacKenzie River in NWT. When the river froze he spent winters in New Zealand and Australia.

In retirement Don volunteered endlessly for his community. A member of Malahat Lion's Club, known as the 'fry guy' in their Kook Kart and dedicated to the Shawnigan Cemetery Maintenance Crew. He was proud to belong to the Goldstream Masonic Lodge and appreciated his 'brothers' getting him to their meetings by wheelchair!

He is predeceased by his parents, Bill (1968) and Ina McDowell (2006), and survived by his sister Marian Davies (Bill); nephew Roy Davies (Lisa); niece Kathryn Lake (Shawn); and great nephews William and Mathew Lake, all of Shawnigan Lake.

Celebration of life will be on Feb. 11th at the Goldstream Masonic Lodge at 1:30 pm.
